HMS Victory Button

The above relic button scan, was sent to me by Philip James, from New Zealand, who runs and on-line auction web site, called "trade-me".

It was in response to one of my button booklets, that one of my contacts in England, had put on their web site, http://ourpasthistory.com/naval/british_navy/index.htm , and had been sent to him as a guide.

The individual was identified as "Matloe", (slang for sailor), aka Greg Sayers, from Invercargil, New Zealand, (which is about as far south as you can get on the South Island, without getting wet).

For a while Greg was a tour guide on HMS Victory in Portsmouth Harbour, Hampshire, England.

Greg stated that this button was issued to commemorate Nelson's HMS "Victory", probably 1805-1810.

The button in the centre was from my booklet.

To date, 8/05/06, this button has a bid of 86.00 NZD, sale closes 8/10/06.
