2nd Battalion C.E.F. silver button

This 2nd Battalion, C.E.F., Eastern Ontario Reg't, (Governor General's Foot Guards), Officers Button.

It was loaned to me by one of our more active members in Canadian Military button collecting.

What is so interesting is that it is made of sterling silver and made in England.

On the rear of the button is the Assay Office hall marks and the maker's initials ( B.T. ) The Hall Mark starts with the anchor, which is the mark for the city of Birmingham Assay Office. Next is the Actual Assay stamp, which is the lion passant, which guarantees the silver fineness of this button. Lastly there is the date stamp, which in this case is the lower case " t " in a shield. The shield shape gives a date spread, ( 1900 - 1949 ), and the " t " is the code for 1918.

This button can be found in Smylie book ref. # OS-1 & OS-2
